[kar'dozu 'pirɪʃ], José, portugiesischer Schriftsteller, * Pêso (Santarém) 2. 10. 1925, ✝ Lissabon 26. 10. 1998; knüpfte an E. Hemingway und den portugiesischen Neorealismus an, ging aber durch distanzierte Erzählhaltung und satirische Überziehung darüber hinaus, nutzte auch die Techniken des Nouveau Roman (»O delfim«, 1968, deutsch »Der Dauphin«).
 
Weitere Werke: Romane: O hóspede de Job (1963); Balada da praia dos cães (1982; deutsch Ballade vom Hundestrand); Alexandra Alpha (1987); A república dos corvos (1988).
